You can sit in the house all day waiting for the weather to break. Sometimes it does, and we get out for a great little walk,

today it didn't and I drew the wet straw.

Recent rains have swollen the infant River Cocker, here known as Dub Beck

as it swirls under Maggie's Bridge itself.

Mellbreak from the meadows.

Thrushbank Farm across a rather full Loweswater.

Slightly brighter along the length of the lake, looking more westerly than the previous shot.

The picturesque summer rowing boat is looking sad and forlorn.

It has been beached in the shelter of the field wall instead of it's normal mooring spot on the beach next door.

Rain smudges on the lens on this photo of the National Trust Holme Wood Bothy.

Available to holiday-let, but not taken this week.

I followed a rather muddy forestry track up towards the falls and found the reason why the track was in such poor state of repair.

The have been thinning much of the forestry and this was the tractor unit that had been transporting the logs.

The Flash has picked out the rain drops . . . it's not snow.

The fast flowing Holme Beck.
Captured on a faster shutter speed

For those technically minded, the first shot was a non flash, f 2.8, 1/8th of a second rather than the subsequent one at 1/25th of a second exposure.

The second started out much too dark but looked quite interesting with a little photo shop treatment.

Holme Force - in full spate.
My two rather damp companions.

Speech bubble . . . . " Click here or on the photo above for a short video taken while we were waiting in the rain. "

( The 1/2 min video should open a new window and play in your Windows Media Player)

( It may take a minute or so to download on slower connection speeds - please be patient )

Flash highlights the small birch sapling on the way back.
Similarly the boat with bright rain drops.
