Welcome to Rose Cottage, in the hamlet of Loweswater, in the heart of the English Lake District.

We hope these few photos will give you a taste of its delights, and also give you an idea of what is available should you wish to stay.

The cottage has a long and varied history. It was used as the original school house until the school itself was built at the top of the village,

then it was home to various people including the local blacksmith who worked in the old Smithy opposite (now demolished).

His daughters lived on in the house for many years and are remembered by today's 'older generation' for selling sweets from the cottage.

Despite being modernised several years back, the Cottage has retained many of its original features.

It has two oak beamed bedrooms and a central lounge but now has all the latest conveniences for your stay

including a more modern bathroom and an up-to-date kitchen which are found to the rear of the property.

The kitchen has a fridge, cooker and microwave, and has full dining cutlery and kitchen utensils for self catering.

The bath and shower room has been

completely renovated.

[ All linen is included but please bring your own personal towels.]

Your modern bathroom has a fitted bath with a shower, plus an airing cupboard for drying clothes.

Accommodation comprises of two separate, twin bedded rooms . . . in both cases the beds can be pushed together to form large doubles if required.

A high chair and travel cot are also available on request.

It has central heating via storage heaters, plus an open fire with a back-boiler which heats radiators in all the secondary rooms.

The fireplace burns coal or logs and these are both provided at no extra charge.

New for 2013

is a washing and drying facility in the outhouse.

It is now equipped with a washing machine

and a drying cabinet for your clothes.

The outside toilet and laundry are now fully lit.

The cottage and gardens do have several delightful visitors. ( You may wish to bring some bird food or squirrel nuts with you if you have room in the car).

Loweswater is the home to the famous Kirkstile Inn, which serves excellent food and a selection of good local beers. The Pub and the C.of E. Church are both about 150 yards along the lane from Rose Cottage. We are four miles from the Lorton village shop, and eight from the town of Cockermouth where there are a full range of shops and supermarkets.

Great Gable and Crummock Water.

The three lakes of Buttermere, Crummock and Loweswater are all within a few minutes drive

but the area is also blessed with numerous public footpaths giving access to the lakes and the local fells.

If you wish, it is quite possible to enjoy a week here without using your car at all !!

We are a very dog friendly cottage and welcome the canine members of your family into our fully enclosed garden.
