Two walks with the children up Blencathra.

The first is our climb in 1988 when Gareth was seven and Jenna five.

Our route up was via the Halls Fell Ridge, the second steepest ascent after Sharp Edge itself.

Jenna and Gareth scramble up the rocky section.

Reaching for the top !

The summit ridge to Gategill Fell top, with Derwent Water behind.

Contemplating the cornice, looking down from a safe distance.

There were several patches of snow on the back slope of the fell

so waterproof trousers were on in order to enjoy the fun.

The descent via the Scales Fell ridge, looking back up at a the summit with its snow cornice.

the second walk was thirteen years later, in October 1997.

Gareth and Jenna have grown somewhat and we had Nicky, our first retriever, with us on the walk.

On that occasion we descended via Sharp Edge . . .

. . . Gareth and Jenna pausing just above the 'Slab' on the descent.
