Well, its been a funny old year.

We seem to have had a very early spring in February,

several early attempts at summer in April and June . . . then it began to rain.

The summer months were rather wet . . . so what will November be remembered for ?

In recent weeks we had floods with Storm Ophelia

and though rainfall didn't reach epic proportions

all the fields and the garden are just totally wet and soggy.

This was Scale Hill river measuring station last week (22nd)

when the dog walk was delayed for as long as possible

but we ended up going out in the rain anyway.

The river is somewhere between here and the distant green field.

Saturday, after a noisy night of wind and rain we woke to the sound of slush sliding down the windows

and a layer of white stuff, though not exactly fluffy snow, covering the ground here in the valley for the first time this year.

Sunrise has seen a wintery shower at the head of the Buttermere Valley . . .

The northerly breeze was blowing the cloud away . . .

I think that can class as "Crepuscular rays" as the sun shone through a hole in the clouds.

Gradually the weather cleared to reveal the winter covering on the high fells.

Our little Pod seemed

to be snug and warm at the bottom of the garden.

Last week it was used for the first time

when the grandchildren stayed overnight.

Today the outside was christened

with its first wintery shower.

The bird table was ready to be re-stocked, a daily task.
but first a photo of Carling Knott beyond the red phone box.

The residual warmth of the tarmac was quickly melting the snow.

Rose Cottage and the Vicarage are both empty today.

Rose Cottage is in-between holiday lets . . . the Vicarage is short of a Vicar.

Our recent lady incumbent has retired and moved away . . . anyone of that profession want to enjoy a new rural calling ?

Contact the Parish or the Diocese not me.

Across the way the low sunlight has lit the fields . . . the shadows stretching far across the fields.

A short while later the light had changed and Low Fell was brightly lit, albeit with a wisp of cloud touching the top.

Snow has fallen in Scotland several weeks ago and on the high Lakeland fells there are reports of arctic conditions on the summits,

which we have not personally indulged in for several years now.  Leave that to the well equipped, younger enthusiasts.

Today . . . now . . . well its time to offer breakfast to the birds, the dogs and ourselves.
