After seeing the first of the bluebells in Holme Wood over the weekend

and noting the ones in our garden are growing a-pace,

we thought it time for a quick evening walk over to Rannerdale to see how the wild variety were doing.

The view over the purple bank from the footpath.

A little further on and the close grouping gave a more vivid colour to the area by the trees.

however the dull, hazy weather doesn't make them shine.

A slight detour following the grassy paths round the outside of the banks of flowers

brought me to the point where I could take more or less the same picture in reverse.

Close up and personal.
Another group by the Mountain Ash.

Surprisingly there were sheep in the enclosed field area . . . but they seemed to prefer grass to bluebells so no problem.

Heading back after spending a few minutes at the bridge and introducing Dylan to the mountain stream . . .

He wasn't impressed . . . he had something like a "Why am I getting wet for no good reason " look on his face.

Just a quick report tonight . . . just to let you know how the bluebells are getting on

in case you were thinking of visiting over the bank holiday weekend.

As you can see, the flowers are growing well due to the mild winter and subsequent mild spring,

but it will be a week or two till they come into full bloom.

Hadn't planned to take picture but the phone came into it's own again tonight to record the scene.

Meanwhile back at home . . .

It's been a busy week with the web counter reaching the magic million.

If you missed the competition, pick up the results here.

We also enjoyed a visit from Doug and Betty from East Anglia tonight.

Keen fans of our work (blush blush) they called in

to see Dylan and Harry not us (sob sob) . . . only joking.

It has been nearly three years since they were here last

and we enjoyed a nice chat to catch up on the intervening times.

They kindly agreed to pose for Dylan's album

and sent us this photo a few days later.

This link is looking at last year's pictures just two weeks earlier on the calendar than this week.

The cold spring and March snowfall held them back last year . . . no such problems this year.
