The Pine woodland and heaths of Surrey

After visiting our second daughter in Tickhill near Doncaster, we journeyed south for a few days with Catherine, our eldest daughter and her husband Richard.

She lives on the Sandhurst Academy grounds in Surrey, and the lakes are a great place for a walk and to exercise the dogs, all four of them this time.

The Upper Lake, Sandhurst, with calm reflections of the reed beds and the trees opposite.

Where reality merges with reflections
Mixed woodland, Pines with a carpet of fallen Broadleaf .

The Academy at Sandhurst, viewed across the Lower Lake.

Alexander had brought some bread to feed the birds.

Young first season Swans, not yet in full white plumage.

Ann stands back to let a family of ducks through.

The mature Mute Swan makes an impressive sight.

A male Mallard ( the female in front has the brown feathers )

A Heron waits for passing fish over by the bushes. ( Bread is obviously not to his liking )

So much for good looks . . .

The male Swan turns aggressive and chases away the family of ducks who were competing with him for the food.

We also went for a walk in the local woods while we were there.

Alexander tackles the first plank bridge . . .
. . . and then another.

He wasn't as keen on the second crossing as one of Cathy's dogs had bumped him off it a few weeks ago - one wet, muddy kid !

Alexander with Bow and arrow ?
Wild woodland walking.

Plenty of space for the dogs to run.
He's almost as big as me now.

Christmas presents exchanged, all too soon we were on our way home.

No pictures of Richard, Jack, Matthew or Sam this time as it was a work / school day today.

One the way home we stopped off for a rather nice lunch at Angie's at Castle Bytham near Stamford.

She was just hanging the washing out !!!

Harry and Bethan joined Bailey for a walk after lunch.

These photos must have been before the walk - they are still clean and the woods are muddy !
