" Back to Oban "

Date : Monday 22nd May 2006.

Occasion : The final full day of our holiday.

Location : Back on the mainland, and out travels in and around Oban.

On holiday with : Ann and the two dogs.

Weather : Clear blue summer skies with some high cloud.

Connel Bridge north of Oban, once a railway bridge, it now carries the roadway.

The Wide Mouth Frog, our hotel overlooking the Dunstaffnage Bay Marina.

The car is an old 1930's Vauxhall, enjoying a tour of Scotland.

The marina, a busy boatyard and harbour, with Dunstaffnage Castle behind.

This was the view from our window.

Today we headed north for a tour along the coast and a visit to Benderloch,

from where we could climb a local hill, Beinn Lora. It should have good views from the top.

The woodland, full of wild garlic.
A brief stop on the steep path up through the woods.

The view improved as we climbed.

Beyond Lismore Island are the high hills of Mull.

To the northwest, we looked up Loch Linnhe

to the high hills of Fuar Beinn and Creach Beinn, and Beinn Bheag on the Ardgour Peninsular

The summit of Beinn Lora,

reached after just short of a thousand feet of climbing.

right : A distant view of Colonsay down the length of the Firth of Lorn.

In the centre is the Mull ferry returning to Oban.

Snow on the Bidean Nam Bian hills of Glen Coe and good visibility up towards the Ben Nevis mountains.

Click here or on the photo for a full annotated 360 panorama.

Back down on the forest path and back around the lake,
and then down through the mature natural woodland.

Afternoon tea with a view.

Castle Stalker on an island in Potnacroish Bay from the local craft shop / cafe.

Back to our rather nice marina hotel, The Frog

Across the bay is Beinn Lora where we walked today.

A short walk down to the boats to appreciate the evening sunshine.

A final sunset before we must return home tomorrow.
