Oak Cottage - Loweswater

Retreat to the quiet of the Western Lakes

The Cottage, and the view up the Buttermere Valley
Oak Cottage, Loweswater.

Christmas Day 2002. Oak Cottage Loweswater.

A generally grey day weather wise, with the prospect of periods of even wetter grey later !!

A local walk is called for . . .

so we take the dogs on a lakeside round trip, starting with the road

towards Loweswater Church, and the Kirkstile.

Wainwright's "negative signpost" and the dramatic north western side

of Melbreak just catching the cloud.

Looking north up the Lorton Valley, from the Kirk Gate Farm road in Loweswater.

Christmas lunch - bovine style.

A damp view of Low Park and the valley of Gasgill.

Along the lower slopes of Melbreak, following the forest edge.

Pines give way to Oaks as we leave the trees.

Despite the cold, damp conditions,

the dogs decided to get even colder and damper.

Rannerdale view, from the Pump House on Crummock.

High Stile is well into the cloud and Haystacks and Gable are totally hidden today.

The return track takes us back to the "village"
