We had a brilliant meal out last night at the Overwater Hotel (near Binsey) with friends Dee and John to celebrate the festive season, It then became an interesting drive home as we returned to Loweswater. The cold and wet day yesterday had turned to snow last thing in the evening. In the morning we awoke to find the snow still blanketing the valley and the view altering by the minute as the sun broke through the overnight clouds. We were welcomed home last night by our own Christmas decoration. Once the dogs were greeted and re-settled I popped outside with the camera. It looks like we've left the car's interior light on . . . must remember to turn it off before I go back inside. The snow on the road is very wet so the snow may not stay for long. I was trying for a long-exposure photo and a car came along and so I had to move. I hadn't closed the shutter . . . still it makes a lovely abstract art photo ! A few minutes later and even the car we used tonight was starting to get covered in snow. - - - o o o - - - In the morning we awoke to a thick blanket of winter white. It wasn't particularly cold so it was a bit slushy on top of the rain soaked grass from recent days . . . still, it looked nice. The same view of the cars, this time in daylight. A post dawn / pre-sunshine view of Mellbreak over the garden hedge. A few minutes later as the light improved I went out again for a comparative photo, this time including the Gillerthwaite Old Post Office Very soon the sun was almost ready to make an appearance. The light of dawn was spreading more widely now. The cottage from near the phone box. There have been a few cars past but not a lot as it is still early on a Sunday morning. Watching Crag on Low Fell is just catching the first direct sun of the morning. The phone box . . . an entry for the BBC Weather Watchers file but it seems we haven't made it to the TV weather report today.
The sun now illuminating Carling Knott. Mellbreak and a bit of local colour from our defib-converted phone box.
Grasmoor is clear of cloud and the head of the valley is looking brighter by the minute. Low Fell and the walk up to the tree is looking inviting. I'll take a walk that direction in a short while . . . meantime it is time to head back inside the house. - - - o o o - - - |
