The final day of the long weekend and a sociable day again with family and friends. I have a lunchtime appointment, but before I head off in the car there's time to go for a local walk. Both the dogs and ourselves need to get out, to work off the excess of good food offered by our daughter and son-in-law this weekend. - - - o o o - - - Monday the weather is a little more overcast . . . but to be fair, not generally as overcast as theses photos suggest.
Arthur Ransom's boat, the Nancy Blackett, was renovated here and maybe the 'Swallows' link is reflected in the name of the house next door.
Someone has noted the dates of the first Swallows of the season, as seen from the yard. Dates average out as the third week of April with the variation over the years being relatively small. Please note: This part of the yard is private property and would need permission to visit. - - - o o o - - - Time for a morning walk . . . This is the view down the driveway to Ipswich High School for Girls as we cross the impressive drive on a local footpath. Our extended Woolverstone walk this morning takes us a short way inland on a round trip to the marina. The path took us across to St Michael's Parish Church in Woolverstone Village. Usually we pass straight by, as we have done on several occasions, but today we decide to have a look inside.
When you look across the church the first thing you see is the colourful display of kneelers on the pews. To the right is the altar . . . but it turns out to be the "Lady Chapel". The main chancel and altar are on the left.
At the bottom of the woods we reach the river and the Royal Harwich Yacht Club Our walk has brought us back to the Woolverstone Marina that Ann visited on Saturday. A touch of colour as this cruiser sails up through the moorings on the River Orwell. A surprising sail combination . . . spinnaker but no main or jib . . . but then he is sailing down wind. A study in masts and rigging . . . the Orwell Bridge in the background. If you need to hoist a large boat in and out of the water . . . then you need a large crane ! If it's hot then you need another ice cream !! - - - o o o - - - Whilst I head down to Colchester to have lunch with Tim and his wife Fiona (Tim was an old school friend) Ann stayed in Pin Mill with family and dogs and by the look of it, enjoyed a busy afternoon in the garden. Sam talks to Bilbo the puppy as Dylan vies for attention.
'Time out' in the hands of our grandson Jack. He has his girlfriend Catherine with him this weekend . . . Harry obviously approves, he looks quite smitten ! Time for Dylan and Boris to play the . . . " try and rip the toy apart " game. Bilbo wants to join in. Acting as referee in a game of tag . . . or perhaps just wanting to have the toy himself. - - - o o o - - - Evening and high tide down on the waterfront . . . the Butt and Oyster is doing good business. The adjacent houses catch my eye too . . . an idyllic scene on this sunny, summer evening in Pin Mill. - - - o o o - - - |
